Information on DVLA personalised registrations and Number Plates

All number plates and registration marks mentioned in this site are either issued and controlled by the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency -formerly known as the DVLC , in Swansea) or the DVA NI (Driver and Vehicle Agency Northern Ireland in Coleraine). They are only for display on vehicles registered in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.

The DVLA markets and sells previously un-issued personalised registration marks for UK registered vehicles, but does not offer any re-sales facility to owners of private number plates. The term personalised is specifically chosen to explain that whilst these brand new registration numbers originate from the general run of the mill bi-annual issuing sequences, they have been especially selected and withdrawn from general issue, instead being chosen as desirable plates which have certain personal characteristics making them potentially more valuable and cherished.

Twice each year, usually in early December and early June, the DVLA releases these personalised numberplates onto the general market for sale under their Sale of Marks scheme with prices carefully chosen to illustrate the desirability of the personal number plates in question. The DVLA has a pretty good idea of the level of desirability of private registrations as they have been in the business of selling these personal plates since 1989.
DVLA Personalised Registrations also auctions some of what they consider to be their more valuable registration numbers holding about six auctions a year, each selling about 1,500 registration numbers. Full details of each auction are advertised in the press or online.

You can purchase or sell any DVLA personalised registration mark through www.BOSSREG.com

DVLA Registrations

We Are A Recognised DVLA Car Registrations Reseller

All registration numbers in the UK are issued and transferred in line with the regulations governing DVLA registrations.

All car registration plates are issued by the DVLA registration office, mostly in the natural course of registering vehicles for the first time and sometimes through their own direct sales of DVLA car registrations.

The Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) is based in Swansea and is the only official body in the UK for issuing and sanctioning the transfer of registrations from one vehicle to another. Car Registration dealers exist to help sellers to dispose of their registrations and to enable buyers to find the private plate they are looking for. They, like BOSSREG, are all independent companies and they are not linked to the DVLA registrations office at all.

The DVLA organise many auctions all around the UK to help drivers find a particular DLVA car registration that they've been unable to find elsewhere. Due to the popularity of the auctions, many plates can be bought cheaper than anywhere else and sold on for profit.
